THIS HUMBLE BODY PART are artistic portrayals on how irrational fears control our deepest desires as the influence of gender roles and their effect on relationships.

Control is a fear.

Those experiencing irrational fears about not having the control, may avoid discussions on it (men controlling women) as a trigger sometimes to the detriment of our society, work, social, or home life.

MARRIAGE is inspired in societies that stigmatise unmarried independent women.

When it comes to our body our feet have stories to tell. Particularly, if you had been born a girl.
In different times and cultural contexts, modesty has been attached to a variety parts of the female body, from hair to buttocks or feet.

In ancient China as in Western Victorian times, it was immodest for women to exhibit their feet. This underlying standard for such practices has been projected on to the female body as a measure of control.

In Never Marry A Woman With Big Feet: Women In Proverbs From Around The World, Mineke Schipper explores further cultural and social factors that influence this particular women’s body part that restricts their decisions about their bodies.

I AM MY ROLL MODEL is the last photograph of THIS HUMBLE BODY PART that makes reference to the systemic discrimination and marginalisation of women who are perceived to be overweight or obese by our societies. One of the most pervasive examples of Fatophobia is in the fashion industry.
