Jipijapa, a palm-like plant native to the region and other parts of the continent, including Ecuador, serves as the material for these fans. The artisans renowned for their jipijapa fan-making skills hail from Bécal and the former Santa Cruz Hacienda in Calkiní, Campeche, Mexico.

Princess Diana’s iconic navy and white bubble skirt ensemble at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival cemented its status as a fashion moment.
